My work on BiofuelGPT represents a significant step toward leveraging AI for social impact, specifically in the area of sustainable agriculture. I developed BiofuelGPT, the world’s first AI-driven natural language bot designed to educate farmers on converting agricultural waste into new income streams through biofuel production. This initiative was part of BiofuelCircle, India’s leading biofuel marketplace, and aimed to promote environmental sustainability by reducing the widespread practice of burning agricultural waste. I conducted extensive field research, interviewing veteran users of the platform and reaching out to potential users to understand both the benefits and barriers to adoption. By analyzing user data and integrating these insights into the AI model, I led the iterative development of a custom GPT model that facilitates engaging and informative dialogues with farmers. This work not only empowered farmers with actionable knowledge but also contributed to increasing their income and supporting environmental goals. BiofuelGPT has significantly improved farmer engagement, adoption rates, and overall awareness of biofuel practices, demonstrating the power of AI in driving positive social and environmental change.
